Mel Goertz Poems from Easter Sunrise, April 1, 2018

Dawn I

Dawn, the light of
the Spirit world,
brings us into our center.
Until then
we were on the outer edge
or trudging through
the darkness,
looking for a star
or a moon.
Now we can rest
in stillness,
heart full of thanks
where fern-tips
taste water
and a wood thrush
sings.

Dawn II

It won’t happen all at once,
it will be gradual
as the sun rises,
one gleam at a time,
through the dark trees.
The clouds will brighten,
sometimes pink,
the sky will turn blue,
and baby squirrels
will frisk, then pause
to take in the wonder.
